Wynton Marsalis On Bill Basie
Wynton Marsalis offers a preview of a Jazz at Lincoln Center tribute to the Count Basie Orchestra. "We're here to have a good time and not get in our own way," Marsalis pledges. The program has a three night run in February 2010.
I love Wynton but have no idea what he just said. He sounds like a politician. Rhetoric. Say more with less. I understand the Basie way but if I didn't, a translation of what he said would be necessary.
"a blues and a sensibility" describing singer Gregory Porter. What does that mean?

Thanks for posting.
Wynton is incredibly smart. I think, Anon, Wynton knows that this tone and style of speaking compels sponsors to open their checkbooks.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right. What HIB said. He knows what he's doing.
