Just an opinion, but I think Steve Paul's article is not a half-full analysis, but a FULL-full analysis. He gives the scene more credit than it deserves.
Everytime I come to Kansas City (a couple of times a year) and for the many years I followed the scene in the 90's while I lived there, it has a long way to go before it would ever be considered "alive, healthy and well".
Hate to be a naysayer, and thanks to cats like yourself with this blog trying to breathe life back into the scene in whatever way you can...but "nearly as vital as ever"...is a little much in my opinion.
