Now's the Time: Cindy Bradley

Many of Kansas City's jazz musicians have tired of my churlish exhortations to document their work on video.  I had simple performance videos in mind, but the embedded Cindy Bradley clip has altered my expectations.  I now realize that slinky red dresses and assertive hair stylists are essential ingredients of a solid presentation.  Perhaps Bradley can give musicians in Kansas City a few style tips when she and Alex Bugnon appear at the Gem Theater on Saturday, May 18.

Isn't this type approach essential when promoting artists and the music of the smooth/contemporary/pop jazz style? This is the type presentation that obviously reaches her audience.

We have a few smooth/contemporary/pop jazz scene of artists here in Kansas City who essentially do the same thing to market themselves and announce performances. Fine musicians all.

And, their fans support them. We could use more of that across the board in jazz and improvised music - regardless which end of the spectrum suits one best.

Ever been to a James Ward Band performance in the Blue Room - always a packed house ...

To each his/her own, I say ...

Peace, Cb
